A good start but not adequate enough...
The city of Montreal has recently launched a call for project ideas for the Canadian Smart Cities Challenge. The city plans to use the submissions to produce a city-wide portfolio.
An important criterion in the first phase of the Challenge application is community consultation. While Montreal’s plan to compile smaller projects into a larger project submission is a great strategy, the concern is how well these ideas reflect the needs of Montréal’s most vulnerable populations. How might the city combine submissions with its own city-wide community consultation to ensure all Montréaler voices, especially those at risk of exclusion, are included in the application submission for April 24th?
